Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra: making great music personal

Mayumi Kanagawa

Mayumi Kanagawa, 14, began playing the violin when she was four years old under the tutelage of Yoshiko Nakura in Japan. After moving to New York when she was five, Mayumi studied with Masao Kawasaki for seven years and was a student in the Juilliard School’s Pre-College Division for three years. Kanagawa relocated to Los Angeles in the summer of 2007, where she began studying with her current teacher, Robert Lipsett, at the Colburn School. Mayumi has spent summers at the Encore School for Strings and the Aspen Music Festival. She won first place in the Connecticut International String Competition in 2006 and recently performed with the Palisades Symphony.
