Kazumi Kanagawa is a seventh grader at New West Charter Middle School in Los Angeles. She began playing piano at the age of four, and at five, she began her studies with Rie Matsumoto at the Hoff-Barthelson Music School in New York. Kazumi has taken master classes with Ann Schein, Michael Boriskin and Victor Rosenbaum. In 2007, she relocated to Los Angeles and began her studies with Ory Shihor at The Colburn School of Performing Arts. Her accomplishments include first place in the eleven-year-old division of the 2008 Cypress College Piano Competition and featured artist in The Colburn School’s Honors Recital. Last summer Kazumi studied with Ann Schein at the Aspen Music Festival and School.
