Sarah Thornblade
associate principal second violin
Sarah Thornblade joined the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra in 1999 and is currently the associate principal second violin. The Los Angeles Times has called her playing “rapturously winning” and she has been described as a “marvelously versatile violinist” by the Santa Barbara News.
An avid chamber musician, she is a member of the Eclipse and Denali String quartets, and the new music group, X-tet. Sarah has also performed with Camerata Pacifica, the Auros Group for New Music (Boston) and as part of the Monday Evening Concert series. She has recorded the string quartets of Zeena Parkins for the Tzadik label. As a founding member of the Arianna String Quartet, quartet-in-residence at Eastern Michigan University, she won the grand prize at the Fischoff, Coleman and Carmel chamber music competitions.
Sarah has performed throughout the country and abroad at festivals including the Tanglewood, Spoleto, Colorado Music, Strings in the Mountains, Oregon Bach and Norfolk festivals and the Banff and Portland Chamber music festivals. In Los Angeles, she is an active studio musician.
She has collaborated with artists such as Gilbert Kalish, Jeffrey Kahane, Andres Cardenes, Randall Hodgkinson and Warren Jones. Sarah studied with Miriam Fried and Shmuel Ashkenasi.
