Cameron Patrick


Born and raised in Brisbane, Australia, Cameron Patrick is a graduate of the University of Queensland where he studied composition with Colin Brumby, Philip Bračanin and Andrew Schultz and completed a Bachelor of Music in violin performance with Elizabeth Morgan (AM). He was awarded the J. Albert & Son Prize for the Most Outstanding Student completing a Bachelor of Music Degree, the Music Department’s String Performance Prize and upon graduation, a University Medal, which is awarded to the top one percent of graduates from a school year. After leaving UQ, he played with both the Queensland Symphony and Queensland Theatre orchestras, as well as being founding concertmaster of the Camerata of St. John’s Chamber Orchestra and leader of the Patrick String Quartet. He moved to the United States to further his studies in composing, orchestrating and arranging, and completed an Advanced Studies Certificate Program at the University of Southern California, where he was one of the recipients of the Harry Warren Scholarship.

His recent concert works include Impressions of Erin, a commission from the Camerata of St. John’s Chamber Orchestra (who premiered the piece in December, 2012 in Brisbane, Australia where it was recorded for subsequent broadcast on ABC Radio Australia); and Musings for solo viola (premiered by American violist Darrin McCann in February, 2008 at a Montgomery Arts House For Music & Architecture Chamber Music Series concert in Malibu, and most recently performed by LACO associate principal viola, and fellow Australian, Victoria Miskolczy at a LACO à la carte in November, 2013). He is currently working on a commission for harp and strings for the principal harp of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

Cameron is a published arranger, with an anthology of String Quartet and String Orchestra arrangements released by Alfred Publishing in 2010 and critically acclaimed in the American String Teachers Association journal as “a novel, motivating and energizing experience for performer and listener.” He also occasionally composes and orchestrates for film and is active as a freelance violinist and violist.  He has appeared as guest performer in numerous chamber music series, as well as having played with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, Long Beach Opera, Los Angeles Mozart Orchestra, Mozart Camerata Chamber Orchestra and Santa Barbara Symphony.
