principal second violin
Josefina Vergara joined LACO in 1999 as principal second violin. A native of Chile, she has garnered recognition for her performances throughout the United States and abroad.
As an active chamber musician, Josefina has appeared in recitals in Europe and the Far East and has participated in numerous festivals, including La Jolla Music Society’s SummerFest, the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival and the Aspen and St. Bart’s music festivals. She has performed with fellow chamber musicians Jeffrey Kahane, Lynn Harrell, Timothy Eddy, Claude Frank and David Golub, among many others.
She earned her Bachelor of Music degree at Indiana University, studying with Miriam Fried. She has been a prizewinner at the Pasadena Showcase House Instrumental Competition, the Osaka International, Fischoff National and Coleman chamber music competitions.
Josefina has appeared as soloist with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and the Peninsula Symphony, as well as with the Indiana Chamber Orchestra. Recently, she has toured Europe and Asia as the violinist of the Uri Caine Ensemble, a jazz group. She has performed in various summer music festivals including Mainly Mozart and Tanglewood, the Music Academy Summer Festival and the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival. She has participated in the Los Angeles Philharmonic Institute and played at the Villa Musica in Mainz, Germany.
Josefina is active in many film, television and recording projects.
