get to know angie

Meet Angelica Vargas, this summer’s CRF Expanding Horizons intern, in her own words:

Hi! My name is Angelica Vargas. I’m 17 years old and I live in Sun Valley, CA. I’m a rising senior at John H. Francis Polytechnic High School. I am proud of being part of LACO and their staff, even for just the summer. It’s been a great experience so far. I was blessed with this job and the opportunity to work with the staff.

This is one of many jobs I’ve had. I’ve worked in Clean and Green (worst experience), ROP in ToysRUs, and was a teacher’s assistant in my school. Right now, I am in no clubs but was in the Animal Lovers Club in my sophomore year. I’m into all types of music, but particularly rock the most. I play the clarinet right now, and I’ve played the violin and the flute. I also look to cook and bake from time to time (especially on BIRTHDAYS!!). When I’m not at school, I like to just spend time with my mom and taking care of my cute nephew (I’m weird – I don’t like parties.)

Well, I have a brother named Gilbert, a younger sister, Alejandra, and my loving mother Maria. We were blessed to have my nephew Joseph as part of our family too. Unfortunately and sadly, I no longer have a father. He passed away on November 17, 2007 from diabetes and high blood pressure. He left in peace but no last words to us. But now he no longer suffers.

My favorite food is and will always be Chicken Alfredo Primavera. I also love my mom’s posole and tamales. My favorite colors will always be yellow and black (bee colors.)

A funny fact about me is that I’m always falling down on the first day of school. I always call if my “fall for success” instead of my leap for success. An interesting talent I have might be that I can bend my wrist all the way to the front.

My dream college is CSUN and I’m hoping I will get in for the fall of 2010. I am passionate for working and I am a hard worker. That’s why I’m interning with LACO today!

We’re thrilled to have you with us this summer, Angie!
