It’s Julie Gigante! Her beautiful portrait and those of many LACO musicians past and present overlook the 110N on Kent Twitchell’s homage to great music.

This weekend LACO will mark the mural’s, Harbor Freeway Overture, 20-year anniversary. The Los Angeles Times Karen Wada reports on the event in today’s paper, featuring interviews with three of the musicians represented in the painting who continue to perform with LACO: Julie Gigante, Allan Vogel and Roland Kato.

Twitchell weighs in recalling,

my greatest satisfaction comes from painting a monument to a great orchestra and, consequently, a monument to great music. (Los Angeles Times)

The three musicians, as well as Twitchell on Saturday evening, will receive a brief introduction during a special tribute to the mural before each performance. Additionally, KPCC’s “Off Ramp” airs a piece about the artwork this Saturday. Tune in to learn about the mural’s creation and history.

Join LACO in the celebrations at Reflection this weekend, on either Saturday, December 10 or Sunday, December 11.
