Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra: making great music personal

bach to bossa nova

  • Bach Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 in D major, BWV 1050 (1st movement)
  • Bermel “Itaparica” from Canzonas Americanas
  • Bermel “Spider Love” from Natural Selection
  • Bermel “Dog” from Natural Selection
  • Traditional Brazilian Songs

Travel from the ornate salons of the Baroque period to the sun-drenched beaches of Rio de Janeiro via the music of Bach and the soulful sound of the Brazilian bossa nova. The concert portion of the evening features LACO’s composer-in-residence, Derek Bermel, on clarinet and Grammy© award-winning bossa nova crossover vocalist Luciana Souza with Jeffrey Kahane and members of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. Arrive in your festive cocktail attire for an evening of silent & live auctions, dinner and dancing.

The evening is presented under the gracious patronage of The Honorable José Alfredo Graça Lima, Consul General of Brazil, and his wife, Mrs. Mariza Graça Lima.

We are delighted to celebrate the generous contributions of Carol and Warner Henry to the Southern California arts community.

Grammy®-winner Luciana Souza “continues her captivating journey as a uniquely talented vocalist who organically crosses genre borders. Her music soulfully reflects, wistfully regrets, romantically woos, joyfully celebrates…” (Billboard Magazine)

LACO composer-in-residence Derek Bermel is a “brilliant musical vagabond [who] has made the sounds of the world his palette to create a singular artistic vision.” (Sequenza 21)
