Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra: making great music personal

discover beethoven's eroica

  • Beethoven Symphony No. 3 in E-flat major, Eroica

We’ve all heard stories of heroism. What makes those brave men and women tick?

What makes a soldier calmly face unimaginable danger to save his unit? Or a firefighter return to a burning building one last time to make sure everyone is out? When Beethoven wrote his Third Symphony, he set out to musically explore—on the grandest of scales—what makes a hero. LACO invites you on a journey of discovery, to find out just why the “Eroica” Symphony is…heroic. Jeffrey Kahane leads the Orchestra in a demonstration and discussion of the history and key musical ideas of one of classical music’s pivotal pieces.

Perhaps you’ll find your musical hero at the performance that follows.

Jeffrey Kahane possesses “exuberant energy” (Examiner.com) who performs with “impressive versitality and artistry.” (Register-Guard)
