- Prokofiev Peter and the Wolf
The famous Russian composer wrote his first piano piece at age five and his first opera at age nine. He was playing chess—a lifetime passion—at age seven. Prokofiev wrote Peter and the Wolf in 1936, probably about the time your grandparents were born. The characters are played by particular instruments—the bird by a flute, the duck by an oboe, the cat by a clarinet, the grumpy grandfather by a bassoon, the wolf by the French horns and the hunters by the timpani and bass drum. The strings represent our fine hero, Peter. This is a must-see for every child.
