Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra: making great music personal

westside connections 3 2009

  • Britten Phantasy Quartet in F minor, Op. 2
  • Samuel Barber Dover Beach, Op. 3
  • Claude Debussy String Quartet in G minor, Op. 10

Current California poet laureate Carol Muske-Dukes brings her creativity and expertise to the closing event of Westside Connections’ inaugural season. Baritone Christòpheren Nomura joins LACO to perform Dover Beach, Samuel Barber’s musical re-interpretation of Matthew Arnold’s poem by the same name. The piece fuses poetry with instrumental and vocal music, resulting in a hauntingly beautiful yet powerful work. This fascinating new series is curated by concertmaster Margaret Batjer.

“...our Westside friends deserve an equally rich opportunity to explore with us the glorious repertoire of chamber music.” – Music Director Jeffrey Kahane
