Find inspiration in the burgeoning talent of two American artists.

Four years ago, lyric coloratura Laura Claycomb wowed Los Angeles audiences as Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos. Now she brings her delicacy, refinement and theatricality to LACO in a program that culminates in her show-stopping interpretation of the Strauss aria. Meet Derek Bermel as he begins a three-year tenure as the Orchestra’s composer-in-residence. Drawing from a rich variety of musical genres, this “brilliant musical vagabond has made the sounds of the world his palette to create a singular artistic vision” (Sequenza 21).

“…stupendous: more than a flawless vocal performance, a creation of body and voice and spirit so grand in conception as to spread its magic to those around her…[Laura Claycomb is] a great and original creative artist. Cherish her.” (LA Weekly)

“Composer Derek Bermel may not be a household name yet, but if there is any justice in the music world, he soon will be.” (Chicago Tribune)

Bermel’s A shout, a whisper, and a trace is commissioned by American Composers Orchestra and ProMusica Chamber Orchestra, and for the Serge Koussevitzky Music Foundation in the Library of Congress, and dedicated to the memory of Serge and Natalie Koussevitzky.
