Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra: making great music personal

reflection

  • Ravel Le tombeau de Couperin listen
  • Tchaikovsky Variations on a Rococo Theme for Cello and Orchestra, Op. 33 listen
  • Thomas Adès Three Studies from Couperin listen
  • Respighi Gli uccelli (The Birds) listen

Tchaikovsky, Ravel, Respighi and Thomas Adès each drew upon the music of the Baroque to create new compositions of stunning breadth and beauty. Jeffrey Kahane demonstrates his mastery of the chamber orchestra canon, an eclectic program featuring four works that reflect 17th and 18th century musical sensibilities.

Internationally acclaimed soloist Ralph Kirshbaum joins LACO for Tchaikovsky’s elegant Variations on a Rococo Theme for Cello and Orchestra, a prelude to the Orchestra’s participation in the Piatigorsky International Cello Festival which launches in Los Angeles in March 2012 under Kirshbaum’s artistic direction.

Toast the collaboration of Kirshbaum and Kahane at the helm of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra – a shining symbol of the vibrant cultural scene that has evolved in our city!

Placed “in the highest echelons of today’s cellists” (Los Angeles Times), Ralph Kirshbaum brings a “gorgeously nuanced range of shading” (The Washington Post) to his performances.

“What a treasure the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra is! Year after year, concert after concert, the ensemble…delivers satisfying, interesting programs in which Music Director Jeffrey Kahane …finds ways to mix new music with old.” (Pasadena Star-News)
