Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra: making great music personal

mozart: turkish violin concerto

  • Beethoven Twelve Contredanses for Orchestra
  • Mozart Violin Concerto No. 5 in A major, Turkish listen
  • Lutosławski Chain 2
  • Kodály Dances of Galánta listen

Your first boss was tough. You gave your best, but he just didn’t understand your creative genius.

Believe it or not, Mozart toiled in circumstances just like this in his first job in Salzburg. His employer concerned himself with budgets and buildings, not sonatas and symphonies. But even under the Archbishop’s thumb, Mozart’s brilliance was irrepressible. Escape from the demands of your job into the exotic soundscape of Mozart’s “Turkish” Concerto, courtesy of 24-year-old Avery Fisher Career Grant recipient Benjamin Beilman in his LACO debut.

Benjamin Beilman performs with a “handsome technique” that exudes a “sweet, warm, slightly throaty tone.” (The New York Times)
