- Brahms/Swensen Sinfonia in B (Original 1854 version of Trio, Op. 8)
Recapture the exuberance of youth: Mozart composed his symphony at age 24 and the charming bassoon concerto even earlier—when he was just 18! Swensen’s arrangement reflects the high romanticism of a young Brahms in love.
“ Ken Munday’s rendition…was a revelation; the beautiful control across registers that Munday brings…is a wonder to hear.â?

special note
Joseph Swensen on his Sinfonia in B:
“My original impetus for writing this orchestration for [the little-known original version of Brahms’ B-major piano trio of 1854] was to somehow resurrect this great work…The greatest dilemma for me was how to treat Brahms’s extraordinary virtuoso piano writing. ...I chose [to be true to the material itself], with great enthusiasm, to such a degree that every single note that exists in the original has found its way into the orchestral version. The result is an orchestration where the abilities of every player are stretched to the limit and where the orchestra as a virtuoso
instrument is exploited to the same degree as Brahms exploited the limits of the piano…. My hope is that this
orchestration acts as a mirror reflecting the mentality of this surprisingly radical, incredibly romantic, 21-year old
Johannes Brahms.â?
