Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra: making great music personal

mini series: thrill to electrifying soloists

Nothing beats the tour de force of a dazzling soloist! And in this series, the brilliance of an electric guitarist, a prize-winning violinist, a sensational young composer/pianist and astonishing performances by LACO’s own virtuosos ignite musical curiosity. Wiek Hijmans brings you the West Coast premiere of a daring concerto for electric guitar, Nigel Armstrong takes on Mozart’s youthful Violin Concerto, Timothy Andres performs his own re-composition of the “Coronation” Concerto, and the beloved turns to the astounding when the LACO all-stars perform Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos. Don’t miss these daring works performed by this season’s astonishing soloists.

Read what critics have to say about these artists:

Guitarist Wiek Hijmans performs with the warmth of a gypsy” bringing “typical Dutch clarity” to his unique artistry.
(Het Parool, Amsterdam)

Batjer elaborated the line with increasing daring and imagination…In the Handel and Bach works…she set an example that any number of modern-style players—and not a few “period” ones, for that matter—would do well to follow.”
(San Francisco Classical Voice)

Nigel Armstrong “is a genius, and we don’t use the word lightly. How he got that way…it’s just his life, he says. A life we’ll likely be watching.” (Sonoma Magazine)

Timothy Andres’ works, “...were sensational; Andres had no trouble taking the audience along with him wherever he wanted to go–new music cannot be intimidating when played with this degree of skill and zest.” (The Boston Globe)
