Tom Mallen

Tom Mallen was born an Oklahoma Sooner, but moved to California at six months making him a native of Santa Monica and the Westside of Los Angeles. He attended Cal State Los Angeles and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in accounting. Tom has a passion for soccer and coached youth soccer from 1974 to 1995 and is now a state level USSF soccer referee. He served as a board member, treasurer, divisional commissioner and area referee administrator for AYSO from 1975 to 1999. Tom is currently the treasurer on the board of the Soccer South Bay Referee Association.

Prior to LACO, Tom was the controller of the Lewitzky Dance Company where he met Ruth Eliel. After Lewitzky closed, his connection with Ruth led him to the Alex Theatre in Glendale, where he was the director of accounting, and to the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, where he was appointed the director of finance in 2002. Tom’s background includes accounting manager at Ralphs Grocery Company, director of accounting at Jacquard Systems (AM International), director of accounting with the real estate developer company, M.J. Brock & Sons, director of financial review at Watt Industries, the number one residential developer in California from 1985-90, a consultant for financial support for small firms and a controller in the escrow industry.

Tom has been married since 1966. He has three sons and four grandchildren. Tom is the eldest of 15 and his mom just turned 86. He is the 16th of 73 grandchildren on his father’s side of the family and has 12 cousins on his mother’s side. Within his immediate family with spouses, grandchildren, their spouses and great grandchildren, the family will reach a total of 101 in early 2009 with the arrival of the 28th great grandchild!
