The town of Ferrara lies on the Adriatic coast about 50 kilometers north of Bologna. The town, known for its broad streets and numerous palaces dating from the 13th to 15th centuries, was largely developed under the reign of the Frankish dynasty of the House of Este. The city is still partially enclosed by the ruinous walls built during this time.
Teatro Comunale di Ferrara
The first stop on LACO’s 2008 European Tour will be a performance at the Teatro Comunale di Ferrara. Opened in September of 1798, this venue has over 300 performances per year. The Teatro was designed by architect Giuseppe Piermarini, who also designed the Teatro della Scala in Milan, Italy.
