about Hamburg, Germany
Hamburg, the second largest city in Germany and its largest port city, is the birthplace of Mendelssohn and Brahms, and was home to Bach and Telemann. Two-thirds of the city is occupied by parks, lakes, and tree-lined streets, giving it a charming, rural feel.
As part of the 2008 European tour, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra will perform at Laeiszhalle, the center of classical as well as pop music in Hamburg. Construction of the Laeiszhalle was started in 1908 and took four years to complete. It was opened to public on June 4, 1908. Therefore, 2008 will be its 100th anniversary. This historic building contains a 1909 memorial to Brahms by the famous German sculptor Max Klinger.
