about Paris, France
The grand and uniform appearance of Paris today dates back to the massive renovation it underwent under Napoleon III. His prefect, the civic planner Haussmann, leveled entire districts of narrow-winding medieval streets to create the network of wide avenues and neo-classical façades of modern Paris.
Théâtre des Champs-Élysées
In spring of 2008, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra will perform Stravinsky’s Pulcinella Suite in this historic theatre that was the location of the scandalous 1913 premiere of the composer’s Rite of Spring. Completed in 1913, the venue is one of the major examples of Art Nouveau in Paris.
