Jazz vocalist Meloney has been a professional actor and singer for over twenty years. As an actor, her stage work has taken her to theaters across the country from The Pasadena Playhouse for Ray Charles Live to the The Goodman Theatre for Purlie, as well as internationally to Australia, New Zealand, Canada, France, Germany, Poland, Hungary and Cyprus.
Collins fosters a great love for theatre, but her passion for jazz and ease in front of a band catapulted her into singing lead for many big bands including the Long Beach Municipal Band under the direction of Larry Curtis.
For the past eight years, Collins has been the official vocalist for the Side Street Strutters, a seven-piece jazz ensemble that has been together for over 30 years. They have been featured at the Sacramento Music, Monterey Jazz and Sun Valley Jazz and Music festivals. In 2013, they completed a 60-city tour of North America for the Live On Stage performing arts series. Immediately following the tour, Collins recorded and released her debut jazz album, A Little Jazz Now & Then, with her own 18-piece orchestra, followed by her second album Mel Collins Live in Laguna. In July of 2016, Collins headlined the Mammoth Jazz Festival with her own eight-piece band. Her jazz quartet StandardMel, a three-piece rhythm section (and sometimes tenor sax) combo, has been the resident jazz group for Club 33 Disneyland’s Le Salon Nouveau since 2015.
As a voice over artist Collins can be heard on regional and national commercial voice spots, jingles and popular television shows such as The Vampire Diaries and Modern Family. She has also held a long standing relationship with The Walt Disney Company. As a background vocalist, Collins has performed on NBC’s America’s Got Talent. She has also performed with Heather Headley and Michael Bublé, for whom she recently recorded background vocals for his hit single “I Believe In You.”
