Described by the Guardian as “an outstanding musician”, conductor and violinist Riccardo Minasi will take up the position of Chief Conductor of the Mozarteumorchester Salzburg in September 2017.
Having been Associate Conductor of the Helsinki Baroque Orchestra from 2008, Minasi co-founded the ensemble Il Pomo d’Oro in 2012 and has gone on to work in many of the top opera houses in Europe. Recent and upcoming engagements include a new ballet by Christian Spuck, Der Sandmann, as well as Don Giovanni and Il matrimonio segreto for Opernhaus Zürich, Iphigénie en Tauride for the Hamburgische Staatsoper, Carmen for l’Opéra national de Lyon, Rinaldo at Theater an der Wien, and orchestral conducting/directing engagements with Orquesta Barroca de Sevilla, London Chamber Orchestra, Ensemble Resonanz, Stavanger Symfoniorkester, Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Zürcher Kammerorchester and La Scintilla.
Minasi is in enormous demand as a recording collaborator with many of the world’s top soloists. He features on four ECHO Klassik award-winning albums this year including his ‘Haydn Concertos’ album (Concert Recording – 19th century music category) and his ‘Leonardo Vinci: Catone in Utica‘ with Max Emanuel Cencic (Opera Recording – 17th/18th century music category). Other award-winning projects include ‘Stella di Napoli’ with Joyce DiDonato (Diapason d’Or of the Year, BBC Music Magazine Award and nomincated for a Grammy Award), Agrippina with Ann Hallenberg (International Opera Awards Recital Disc of the Year) and Partenope with Philippe Jaroussky and Karina Gauvin (Gramophone Magazine Disc of the Month). In addition, his own recording of the Biber Rosenkranz Sonatas was a finalist in the Midem Classical Awards.
His performances are steeped in musicological integrity, and he has acted as historical advisor for the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, as well as curator and editor (alongside Maurizio Biondi) of the 2016 Bärenreiter critical edition of Norma. Minasi has also lectured in historical practice at the Juilliard School, the Longy School of Music, the Sibelius Academy and the Hochschule für Musik, Hannover.
As soloist and concertmaster, Minasi has performed with the likes of Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Accademia Bizantina, Il Giardino Armonico, Le Concert des Nations, Al Ayre Español, Orquesta Barroca de Sevilla and Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid; and collaborated with, amongst others, Viktoria Mullova, Reinhard Goebel, Luca Pianca, Christophe Coin and Albrecht Mayer.
