LACO education artists-in-residence wild Up, a ground-breaking experimental ensemble based in Los Angeles, joins LACO to perform for MTM students for three seasons starting in the 2014. The group, led by artistic director and conductor Christopher Rountree, unites around the belief that no music is off limits, and that a concert space should be as moving as the music heard in it: small, powerful and unlike anything else.
LACO partnered with the Library Foundation of Los Angeles’ ALOUD series to present Beautiful Acts of Attention: Performance and Conversation featuring Jeremy Denk with LACO music director Jeffrey Kahane on May 10, 2014 in the Mark Taper Auditorium-Central Library. McArthur Genius Fellow Jeremy Denk is one of America’s most talented pianists and Musical America’s 2014 Instrumentalist of the Year. More information about the ALOUD series can be found on the Library Foundation’s website.
play me, i’m yours
On April 12, 2012 Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra presented Play Me, I’m Yours by artist Luke Jerram, a community-wide art and music installation featuring 30 pianos across Los Angeles County. Designed and decorated by local artists and community organizations, the pianos were available for three weeks for everyone to enjoy. The installation launched on April 12, 2012 at noon with a simultaneous play-in of Bach’s The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book I at all 30 pianos. Angelenos community-wide were invited to seek out a piano nearby (or try to find all 30) to play a favorite tune, plunk out a few notes, arrange a concert or just listen to others make music.
