Gabe Ziaukas was born and raised in Santa Monica, CA. He attended Westside Waldorf for 10 years, before transferring to the Santa Monica Public Schools. At Santa Monica High School, Gabe played violin in the Philharmonic and Symphony Orchestras as well as being the Managing Editor of the newspaper. Gabe was member of the National Children’s Chorus from 2006-2016, first as a boy soprano and then as a bass in their chamber ensemble. Through the NCC, Gabe had the opportunity to study conducting with its Artistic Director, Luke McEndarfer where he was lucky enough to conduct the chorus at venues like the Broad Stage in Santa Monica, Royce Hall at UCLA, and Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center. With the NCC, he sang with the LA Master Chorale, the LA Philharmonic, the LA Opera Chorus, and the Joffrey Ballet. Gabe has been studying composition since 2012, and was a longtime student of Dr. Ian Krouse, the Department Chair at UCLA. Gabe was a member of the LA Philharmonic’s Associate Composers Program from 2013-2016 and was a YoungArts winner in composition in both 2015 and 2016. Gabe attended the Tanglewood Institute for composition in the summer of 2015 and the Valencia International Performance Festival in Valencia, Spain in the summer of 2016. He is incredibly excited to be working at LACO this summer, working on arts initiatives around the city as well as learning the day-to-day operations of a professional orchestra. Gabe attends Harvard College, where he intends to study History and Music.
