Benjamin Beilman, the violin soloist for this weekend’s Mozart: Turkish Violin Concerto, chats with KUSC’s Brian Lauritzen in LACO’s latest podcast.

Beilman maintains a hectic performances schedule and spoke with Lauritzen via Skype from Berlin, where he toured with our friends the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. Interestingly, Beilman references a recent concert in Berlin by Anne Sophie Mutter and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Mutter performed Lutosławski’s Chain 2 (originally composed for her)with the orchestra and Beilman has carefully watched the video for technical inspiration. The piece was commissioned by Paul Sacher for the Basler Kammerorchester in Switzerland, where Mutter gave the world premiere.

And now it travels to Los Angeles with Jeffrey Kahane conducting the work for the first time with LACO. This is also Beilman’s first performance of the work and he gives his perspective on the fun differences between the Lutosławski and the Mozart “Turkish” Violin Concerto — his other solo feature for the weekend.
