Click over to the podcast page for the latest installment for the 2012-13 Orchestral Series. KUSC’s Brian Lauritzen speaks with Jo-Michael Scheibe, USC Thornton School of Music’s Chair of the Department of Choral and Sacred Music.
Scheibe sheds light on the USC Thornton Chamber Singers rehearsal process and how he prepared them to work with conductor Helmuth Rilling. Additionally, this weekend LACO and the USC Thornton Chamber Singers under Rilling’s direction perform the Robert Levin edition. Famously, Mozart never completed his final masterpiece and the version finished by his copyist Süssmayr is the most widely performed Requiem. Scheibe discusses why Rilling commissioned the Levin completion and the amount of Levin’s research committed to producing a fresh look at the Requiem.
