Luke Stence’s engagements as a double bassist include performances with groups such as the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Teatro Nuovo, Talea Ensemble, Metropolis Ensemble, the Albany Symphony and at the Aldeburgh, Bard, Chelsea, and Norfolk festivals.
He received degrees from the Manhattan School of Music and Yale University and was twice a fellow at the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, California. He has been an audition finalist with the Buffalo Philharmonic and the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. For five seasons, Luke was a member of The Orchestra Now, an ensemble dedicated to audience engagement and innovative programming. He is currently based in New York with his wife, Valerie, and son, Arthur. His playing may be heard on the Bridge, Hyperion, and Naxos record labels.
