Sandy Hughes

Sandy Hughes became a member of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra in the 2012-13
season. In addition to LACO, Sandy is a member of the Bateira Trio and on the studio
recording roster for Hollywood Scoring. She has appeared frequently with the New York
Philharmonic— including a European tour— as well as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra,
Colorado Symphony, as guest Principal Flute with the Pageant of the Masters, and was
previously a member of the Akron Symphony Orchestra.

A Fulbright Grant recipient, and twice a fellow of both the Tanglewood and Aspen
festivals, Sandy studied at the Manhattan School of Music with Robert Langevin, and at
the Hartt School with John Wion. She simultaneously earned a Bachelor of Arts in
English Literature from the University of Hartford.

Sandy enjoys spending time with her family in Oregon. She is a sailor, a Strala yogi, a
foodie, and she loves to travel with her husband, Patrick. Often found with her nose
stuck in a book, her favorite author is Jane Austen.

Set in out of the ordinary locales, SESSION is a unique experience where LACO musicians join forces with compelling composers. Each program is designed to fit the unique properties of a space and test ideas about the relationship between performers and audience.
